BEGINNING JANUARY 6, 2025 THURSDAY’S GARBAGE PICKUP DAY WILL CHANGE TO MONDAYS. TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY ROUTES WILL STAY THE SAME.
Garbage is normally picked up on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday.
Due to the large amount of missed garbage not picked up, we would like to emphasize the rules for your garbage pickup. We ask that the can(s) be placed on the curb no later than 6 am on your scheduled pickup day with the lid opening facing the street. Only household trash is to be placed in the cans. This means no boxes, construction items, wood, brooms, blinds, etc. is to be placed in the can. The can cannot be overfilled. During the pickup process, if the can is overfilled, garbage ends up falling out of the can and all over your yard and the street. The driver does not have time to get out and pick up the trash. The can must be placed 6 feet from any vehicle, mailbox, utility pole, etc. If you have more than one garbage can each can must be at least 3 feet apart and not too close together. Our trucks have automated arms and have to have room to be able to open and close to pick up the cans. I know there are times that we forget to put out our garbage, but if you cannot wait until the next weeks pickup or if the driver cannot get to your can there will be a $10.00 charge if we have to send a driver back out to empty.
Holiday Schedule 2025 – ALL NORMAL PICKUP DAYS WILL REMAIN THE SAME!
THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE IN PICKUPS DURING THE 2025 YEAR
DEBRIS PICKUP
Please not that all debris pickup, other than household garbage, does not have a scheduled pickup day and will be picked up as the truck gets to that area. We do not take calls for special pickup requests. Please be patient and it will get picked up as soon as possible. Please make sure that all yard clippings and roadside debris are placed in bags in order to prevent these items from entering our storm drains which in turns enters our streams.
Citizens are encouraged to help keep their properties free of debris and litter and to notify City Officials of littering and erosion control issues.
PLEASE DO NOT FLUSH OR DRAIN GREASE, PAPER TOWELS OR WIPES DOWN YOUR DRAIN.THIS CAUSES SIGNIGICANT BLOCKAGES AND OVERFLOWS WHICH CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO HOMES AND THE SEWER COLLECTION SYSTEM AND IMPACTS OUR COMMUNITY’S LOCAL WATER WAYS.
Each year in June, the city hosts a city-wide clean-up day (Chunk the Junk) in which everyone is invited to come help us pick up and dispose of litter around our city. This aims to significantly improve the overall cleanliness and appearance of our city by removing litter, debris, and waste from public spaces, thereby enhancing the aesthetics, public health, and overall quality of life for residents while also promoting environmental awareness.
To report illicit dumping, illicit discharges, and erosion and sediment control violations please contact the Tuscumbia Public Works Department by calling (256) 386-5674 or emailing jkendrick@cityoftuscumbia.org.
