Public Works STREET & SANITATION

Welcome to the Public Works Department page. The Public Works Department is responsible for most, if not all, maintenance and repair of city streets and right-of-ways. We are also responsible for the collection and disposal of garbage and brush within city limits as well as maintaining the city sewer collection.

Due to the large amount of missed garbage not picked up lately we would like to emphasize the rules for your garbage pickup. We ask that the can(s) be placed on the curb no later than 6 am on your scheduled pickup day with the lid opening facing the street. Only household trash is to be placed in the cans. This means no boxes, construction items, wood, brooms, blinds, etc. is to be placed in the can. The can cannot be overfilled. During the pickup process, if the can is overfilled, garbage ends up falling out of the can and all over your yard and the street. The driver does not have time to get out and pick up the trash. The can must be placed 6 feet from any vehicle, mailbox, utility pole, etc. If you have more than one garbage can each can must be at least 3 feet apart and not too close together. Our trucks have automated arms and have to have room to be able to open and close to pick up the cans. I know there are times that we forget to put out our garbage, but if you cannot wait until the next weeks pickup or if the driver cannot get to your can there will be a $10.00 charge if we have to send a driver back out to empty. If you have any questions you can call us at 256-386-5674.

Please not that all debris pickup, other than household garbage, does not have a scheduled pickup day and will be picked up as the truck gets to that area.  We do not take calls for special pickup requests.  Please be patient and it will get picked up as soon as possible.
